Sam’s surviving family believe he painted About Face around 1947, when Sam attended Pratt Institute of Art in New York. About the Artist
Samuel Shapiro (1921-1999) was a decorated WWII Pilot honored with the Distinguished Flying Cross Air Medal, a graduate of Pratt Institute of Art in New York, an Industrial Designer in Detroit, Michigan's golden age auto industry, and an old friend of MAD Magazine's David Berg. Sam created in many art forms, including wood carving, clay sculpting, oil painting and drawing. Sam had a passion for detail and a love for fantasy art.
